oi oi oi oi oi!!!
it seems like a million years since I posted last! Where o earth do I start???
I guess Thursday- Casey, my schnookle pumpkin (taylor) and Daniel came down on the wednesday & visited us the sweeties. We were thoroughly grateful to have them liven up our dull lives!!! Taylor cooked us stir fry for tea (and it wasn't out of a packet!) and then we went to basketball at Thornleigh. mmm....sweaty boys!!! Clover, Kelly Vogel & I cheered until we were almost hoarse! Every time the opposition went to score we yelled 'rain man' (if you've seen the movie 'along came polly' you'll understand!). Well our gorgeous boys lost, but they still played extremely well, and poor LEith still managed to last the entire game despite being pushed to the ground with his arm twisted behind his back by a huge guy on teh other team.
So i'm still up to thursaday--i guess that was Wednesday. In teh morning we had no classes so hung out with the boys and did a little history tour, and took them to eat lunch at our wonderful cafeteria (unfortunately the food was actuually reasopnable, so they didn't get a true picture of what its like :( ). After lunch we caught the train to My good old neurosurgeon in Chatswood. He had some surprising news and heres what it is:
After much thought and deliberation he has decided to do a different surgery on me. Havinbg never operated on someone my age he didn't want to risk doing the lesser-known surgery on me, as the implants don't have a definitive life as of yet, so we had 3 options.
1. stay with the original surgery idea, although he was no longer comfoprtable doing it on me; so i decided against taht.
2. Have a brand new-still-in-experimental -stage surgery, and be the 2nd person in the entire world to have it done...HELL NO!!!!
3. Go through my back instead of stomach, cut through the muscle, chop away the vertebrae to access teh disc. extract teh nucleus polposus and leave teh empty disc in there. Insert 2 silicon-based implants above & beow my vertebrae to stop them cruching down on each other.
So we decided on number 3. This will probably mean taht I have a longer recovery time, which means taht I can't go homw for Christmas :(
and I can't stay in bed all day, I have to be up and walking every few hours so teh muscles grow back properly. I can sit down for periods up to 1 hour. I should be fully recovered by teh beginning of January. The date for teh surgery remains the same however, which is good because plane tickets for my family are non-refundable.
Actually, my mum is flying down teh night before my op, and my dad & sis are also coming on teh Thursady night, but they're driving and will leave on teh sunday. I'm really glad they're coming to be here with me though :)
hmmmm.....Friday- skipped class to finish my assignment on Radiotherapy. Didn't end up finishing till 5ish in teh afternoon. Cleaned my room (although for 2 weeks now its been BEAUTIFUL do doesn't require much cleaning at all!) and then had a gorgeous long bath and read a book then was in bed by 8.30pm!!! the earliest night I've had all semester! It was wonderful though- and I had 12 hours sleep, then got up Sabbath morning and went to church with Peta at Wahroonga.
The sermon was awesome- entitled 'are you a pentecostal' ?? very interesting. had lunch at Fox Valley and went back to the res and had a nap. At 3pm peta, I, Karina, Ashley & Michael went to the beach. It was nice, but a bit cold. we sat there playing the guitar and buiding sand castles. closed Sabbath in the car all the way home then got pizza for tea. YUM! That was the 2nd time I've had pizza all semester and it was soooo good! I went to my room & watched movies with Yoie & Sharona then went to bed around 12.30am.
Sunday- thats today! got up late, and spent the morning working on posters and stuff for my new notice board on our floor. I decided taht as student dean I need to brighten the place up a bit, and brainstormed some ideas for stuff. Started to fully realise how much of a workload theis whole president thing & dean thing is going to be. But I don't care, cause I love it. I enjoy every moment of it!!!
Had a nap after lunch and woke up and thought about studying, then had a myocardial infarction cause I hadn't seen CLover all day, rang Adrian to see where she was, & he told me she went walkabout- I had totally forgotten she went ont that. So then I went over to boys dorm & had a good D&M with Adrian. I was telling him how scared I was about my op so he showed me a bible verse which his brother had as his 'theme' when he had his operation. So I've adopted it as mine. Isaiah 40- the one about I will run & not grow tired & rise up like an eagle.
Then I went and saw Leith and harassed him for leaving his light on alllll weekend, cause he went to big camp at Yarra. I just think he does it to annoy people! THey should send him the electricity bill- then who'd be laughing eh mr spiritual leader??? lol ;)
An hour ago the girls got back from their walkabout absolutely covered in mud and smelling like I don't know what! but I think they had fun, so I'm glad. Sharona was so tired she nearly fell asleep on my bed! I came to the computer room to print off class notes so I could start studying, but, as usual, teh printer isn't working *whats new>>!* so I am procrastinating for a while.......
Should probably go back to my room like a responsible dean in case someone needs a key, or a shoulder to cry on!
night night
:)
